The solution for the ills of the Ummah lies in the way and example of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). He did not form a Jihad group from the very inception of his mission. The initial phase–13 years–of the mission of Nubuwwat was devoted to moral reformation and spiritual elevation. Only after a 100% Islamic community came into existence, was the series of Jihad campaigns inaugurated.

The need of the hour is massive and universal ta’leem and tarbiyat (Islamic teaching and moral reformatory) programs. But this activity is possible only if the Ulama are prepared to sacrifice and devote themselves to the mammoth task of extricating the Ummah from the quagmire of moral rot and decadence in which it is sinking deeper and deeper. However, it seems that until the appearance of Imaam Mahdi, there is no possibility for the reformation of the Ummah on a global scale.

“This is Allah, your Rabb,The Truth. What then is there besides the Truth? (Nothing) except dhalaal (deviation and deception). Whither then are you aimlessly drifting.”
(Surah Yoonus, aayat 32)

“Those who love the life of this world (and prefer it) over the Aakhirah, and they prevent (others from the) Path of Allah, while they search for crookedness therein, verily they are in an extremely remote (state) of Deviation (and deception).”
(Surah Ibraaheem, aayat 3)

The incidents of violence mentioned in these pages are by no means exhaustive. These episodes are merely samples of the total anarchy and violence which reign in Iraq. Most of the victims are Iraqis—mainly security personnel, policemen and soldiers who collaborate with the U.S. military. Many civilians are also killed in the conflagration of violence raging in Iraq.

Although U.S. soldiers and marines are also killed almost on a daily basis, and repeated attacks are made on U.S. military bases, comparatively few U.S. soldiers are killed. The reason for this, is the U.S. military’s preference to stay off the streets and take shelter in the Green Zone and other ghettos of protection. It appears that the U.S. military has reconciled itself with the present trend of violence—Iraqis killing Iraqis.

13th Feb. 05- Fighters attacked a U.S. convoy and a government building near the northern city of Mosul, leaving at least four U.S. soldiers dead. Two Iraqi National Guard troops were also killed.
* Gunmen assassinated an Iraqi general and two companions in a Shiah neighbourhood of Baghdad.
* In a battle just north of Mosul, Mujahideen fired on a convoy in Al-Qahira district, killing four people and wounding two. A rocket was also fired at the governor’s building in Mosul, killing two and injuring four persons.
* Two Iraqi National Guard troops were killed on Mosul’s airport road while trying to diffuse a roadside bomb.

The Third, and the most important lesson in the Iraqi imbroglio for Muslims is the withholding of Divine Aid (Allah’s Nusrat) from the Ummah.

The product of the Iraqi equation—Muslim fighting ability and the impotency of the superpowers— should be victory for the Muslims and the total defeat of the enemies. But this product which appears to be the logical consequence of the equation is beyond the grasp of the Ummah. A vital factor for the attainment of victory is clearly missing.

The fighting ability of Muslims coupled to the inability of the invading kuffaar superpowers has not produced the desired defeat of the enemy and the victory of Muslims. For Muslims of intelligence, it is an axiomatic truth that victory over the kuffaar is not attainable merely on the basis of the fighting ability of Muslims nor on their possession of an abundance of sophisticated weapons nor on the weakness and impotency of the enemy forces.

The first lesson which is explained in the aforegoing pages, is the fighting ability of Muslims. Inspite of the Imaani and Akhlaaqi deficiencies of Muslims, they are still able to hold their ground and inflict heavy losses on a powerful enemy—on the superpower of the world. The second lesson which Muslims can learn from the Iraqi war is the impotency of today’s superpowers notwithstanding their military and nuclear arsenals.

FALLUJAH
Bush has boasted that the U.S. military is the finest and the best in the world. But, the world is witnessing the humiliation of this ‘finest’ military of the world. If just the Fallujah operation is taken into consideration, one can but only observe with surprise and wonder at the weakness of the superpower and the resilience of Mujahideen who have defeated the U.S. military in this city.

The valiant resistance to the American- British occupation offered by the Iraqi Mujahideen despite the heaviest odds loaded against them, bears clear and vociferous testimony to the unique fighting ability of Muslims. This will be better understood when the relevant factors of the Iraqi scenario are borne in mind.

Today Muslims are at their weakest ebb, morally, spiritually, physically, materially and politically. In every aspect, we have to concede that the Ummah today is regarded as the flotsam of mankind. They are bereft of honour, dignity and power. All their lands are under alien occupation, directly or indirectly, with local puppets holding political office on behalf of the foreign masters.

THE UNABATING, in fact escalating, violence and fighting which rage in Iraq, have presented Muslims with several lessons which are both salutary and sombre. Those who have failed to understand the Divine Messages which the conflagration in Iraq is transmitting to us, come clearly within the scope of the Qur’aanic castigation:

“Most certainly, the worst of creatures by Allah, are the deaf and the dumb—those who have no intelligence.” (Aayat 22, Surah Anfaal)

People of Imaan are supposed to derive lessons from events, especially when the developments are massive upheavals such as the raging ocean of blood in Iraq and the raging waters of Tsunami.

LESSONS

The lessons which all thinking Muslims will have gained from the Iraqi Jihad are:

• The excellent fighting ability of Muslims.
• The impotency of the world’s superpowers.
• Allah Ta’ala withholding His full quota of Nusrat (Aid) from Muslims.

Each topic needs some elaboration to kindle in Muslims a better understanding of these disasters to enable them to reflect. Even though there do not appear to be good prospects for the totally blinded Ummah to take ibrat (lesson) and reform itself, it still remains our obligation to deliver the Message of Naseehat. The hearts of men are in Allah’s power and control.

• “The men (i.e. U.S. forces) are expecting a nasty fight from the insurgents, who have surprised them with the sophistication of their tactics. Chachi, a former private investigator says the insurgents “have a pretty good command structure. Perhaps not as formal as ours but certainly not a bunch of farmers throwing something together.” Chachi says the Marines are under observation (by the Mujahideen) pretty much most of the time.”

• “The enemy is getting professional.”

• “Weighed down by their weapons and body armour, the Marines move on toward a second bunker. It is taken out, and within minutes we are pulling back under fire. We run across a field divided by an irrigation ditch. “Get in that ditch!” an NCO shouts. We sink to our waist in the water, scrabbling for grip in the slippery mud. “Get out of that ditch!” the same NCO yells, just as our feet touch bottom. We dash across the field and pause for breath. When we reach the base, its already daybreak

• “A (U.S.) sniper team comes under fire (from the Mujahideen) and requests extraction. U.S. planes make bombing runs over the central part of the city. As evening falls, the insurgents are still firing mortars at the Easy Company base.”
