Allah Ta’ala has appointed the Mu’mineen as His vicegerents on earth to administer His Law. From the very inception of Islam, Allah Ta’ala had made the Muslims the rulers of the world to enable them to govern justly and benevolently according to the sacred Law which Muhammadur Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) delivered to mankind from Allah Azza Wa Jal.
As long as Muslims had acquitted themselves correctly in their sacred Office of Vicegerency, Allah Ta’ala sustained their kingdom with honour. When the Ummah became indolent and indifferent to the sacred purpose for which Allah Ta’ala had created them, they lapsed into the spiritual rut and rot in which non-Muslims were floundering.
DISOBEDIENCE
In consequence of our disobedience and abdication of duty, Allah Ta’ala removed the Ummah from the Office of Vicegerency. From the time of the demise of the Khilaafat, this Office has remained vacant. It can be occupied only by such Mu’mineen who cultivate within themselves the attributes vital for this Office.
These attributes are summed up in a nutshell in the aayat:
“Verily, for you there is in the Rasool a beautiful way of life, for those who have hope of meeting Allah and the Last Day.”
